SWIFT aims to build on considerable work that has already been done in identity management in standards and in multiple R&D projects. The project aims to extend identity management in vital R&D areas as follows: A. Develop solutions, which use identity as a key enabling technology for convergence a) technically between networks, services, applications and content and b) business-wise between operators, service providers, micro-operators and even users as providers. B. Design a cross-layer identity framework with major emphasis on the network to supports rather than change the user’s habits and enhance experience. Include support for multiple personae and enable a strong privacy of the user’s attributes and data. C. Support identity privacy and security for the user across layers, resolving addresses and names revealing only what the user needs and accepts for the expected functionality. D. Provide cross-layer usability features, such as ubiquitous connectivity, user-centred mobility, single sign-on and single bill. E. Develop a model for the handling and management of user data linked to one of his identities or personae, where the user controls which info may be passed on depending on the recipient, his context and other external rules. These global objectives aim to prepare the grounds for a new dimension of business dynamics allowing a fast entry of new players and expanding the business of existing players.
