At the end of its first year, the project completed the integration of specific requirements from the security, network and services point of view, and in developing the initial architecture for SWIFT. A number of specific items have been identified as concrete technology items to work on in the coming 2 years of the project. Major technical progress has been made in the following:
Publications have been one focus of the project in the first year, which will be extended in scope and also moved towards standardization in 2009. Three examples of significant publications in the first year pushing the overall SWIFT ideas on Identity on have been Identities in the Future Internet of Things in Wireless Personal Communications (Springer) by A. Sarma and J. Girao (to be published in May 2009), Mobility Aware Paths: the Identity Connection at the Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC 2008) conference by A. Matos and R. Aguiar and Levels of Assurance and Reauthentication in Federated Environments, EuroPKI 2008, LNCS 5057, pp. 89–103 by M. Sánchez , O. Cánovas, G. López, and A. F. Gómez-Skarmeta. Many of the project participants have taken part in relevant workshops and conferences over the first year, some of these on invitation. As a result, the project has received a good amount of attention by others working in the area. As regards co-operation, the projects has had concrete discussions with the EU projects PrimeLife and PERSIST on issues regarding privacy and how to provide pervasive services. A first workshop, which will include TAS3 and PICOS in addition to SWIFT and PrimeLife, is planned for end February 2009. Initial discussions have been held with the FP7 iNEM4U project, and a joint workshop is expected to take place in June 2009.
